Description: Description.

•Original California car

•Datsun serial number HLS30 12297

•Scarab car numbered #154 this could possibly be the lowest HLS30 serial numbered Scarab in the world.
From Classic Zcars:

Standard Features:
Drivetrain:
• Balanced, blueprinted Chevy 350 (325hp) small block with electronic ignition
• specially designed cross-flow radiator
• high-performance water pump
• flex fan to cool the 22-quart-capacity system
• Borg Warner Super T-10 4 speed with special Hurst competition shifter linkage
• complete exhaust system with a pair of glass pack mufflers
SCARAB #154 has all of the above listed equipment

Suspension:
• Koni adjustable shocks (replaced with brand new Tokico Illuminas 12/05)
• front and rear sway bars
• Teflon compression strut bushings (replaced with Energy suspension bushings 12/05)
• high-performance rack and pinion mounts
• Springs by Scarab (replaced with Tokico springs front and rear 12/05)

• Torque control arm, it is essentially a quarter-inch-thick piece of steel bent into a U shape, with about 3/8” of rubber laid in the bottom of the U. Scarab installed it from beneath the front differential mount, bolting front and back into holes tapping into the metal framework of the differential insulator. The torque control arm minimized the forces on the mount and on the front end of the differential itself without totally eliminating the cushioning effects of the insulator like a solid mount would.

Brakes:
• Disc/Drum (power) with HP pads/shoes FIA 4 piston calipers (front) and finned cast-iron drums rear.

Interior:
• Door panels are soundproofed and covered in glove soft, hand-sewn Scottish leather
• Momo leather steering wheel (replaced with a Grant unit from Motorsports Auto)
• Recaro contoured, reclining bucket seats with headrests
• Seats were re-padded and covered in Scottish leather and velour to match the door panels (Recaro seats have been recovered with new leather to match the original Scottish leather)
• Deep pile carpeting
• Full set of Auto Meter custom gauges to include 5” speedometer, 5” 8K RPM tachometer, 2-5/8” mechanical oil pressure, water temperature and fuel level gauges.

Exterior:
• GM white exterior
• Trans-Am front air dam (being replaced with MS fiberglass air dam)
• Twin exterior rally mirrors
• louvered hood and access panels
• Scarab logo with associated emblems

All exterior Datsun badging was removed from the Scarab factory cars: the low production volume of these vehicles was highlighted by Scarab factory-specific badging that included raised Scarab lettering to replace the Datsun front fender nameplates,
heavy gold medallions containing the Egyptian Scarab Beetle emblem.

Optional Features:
• Drivetrain:
• 350 SB (325 hp naturally aspirated)
• R-200 with 3.36 ratio gearing

Wheels:
• Original 14” BBS wheels with gold centers
• 16” Pannasport wheels with Dunlop tires
What makes this car so special? Not only is it one of 11 known Scarabs but this car was ordered with an original first generation Chevy Bow Tie block and bow tie angle plug heads.

Since I purchased this car in 2005 here is what I have done to it.

Suspension:
Tokico 5 way adjustable struts
Tokico springs
Replaced all bushings with polyurethane
New ball joints and tie rod ends
New boots on steering rack
Repack (grease) steering rack
Rebuild the Sumitomo brake calipers

Interior
Added Pioneer stereo with Infiniti speakers and 10” sub in custom enclosure

Exterior
New MS air dam

After purchasing the car I began my “quest” to take Scarab 154 back to as an original period correct automobile as I could. This meant finding obsolete/nonexistent parts for the car.

I found a set of valve covers for the car and refinished them however they will not clear the big roller rockers installed on the engine, so I do not believe this car originally came with the Scarab valve covers, but I’ve got them. I also found a brand new Scarab style radiator for the car, it came from a “buyers lot” of NOS Scarab parts.

Also included in the sale of the car will be:

Original BBS wheels (14X6) diameter (the car comes with the
Pannasport wheels
Full set of 240 gauges
New speedometer with ZERO miles on the odometer
Original MOMO steering wheel

All literature I’ve collected over the past 4 years to include pamphlets, brochures, letters to customers from Scarab, Sport Z magazines with Scarab articles, Motor Trend magazine with original test write ups.

I’m sure I’ve forgotten something and I am still in the process of detailing the car under hood, it is getting a new alternator bracket, new chrome alternator. I will also take new pictures of the car once it is completely detailed.

The last Scarab I saw for sale was a blue one on ebay that had been converted to a JTR mounted engine and 5 speed transmission, it also had several other modifications that took away from the originality of the car. Scarabs don't come up for sale often so if your serious about purchasing one here's your opportunity!!!

I am open to offers on the price, however I feel I have priced the car fairly at $21,000

If interested please contact me at david.sommer@rocketmail.com
I can send additional photos if requsted, car is located in Rogers, AR and I will help in arrangement of shipping. Overseas buyers welcome if paying in US currency.
Car will not be released until payment is made in full and all checks and cashiers check clear banks they were drawn on. Cash talks!
