This 1973 240Z (HLS30-168xxx) was originally purchased by Murphy J. Foster III residing in Franklin, Louisiana from Dependable Dodge-Datsun located in Lafayette, Louisiana. The dealer installed the optional AC system and the original owner had the Ziebart rust protection applied. The current owner purchased the car in 1981 from Jim Miller Nissan in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1984/85 the car was partially repainted, converting the original (and faded) color of 113 Green Metallic to the current color of 928 Cameo Beige, which was used on the early 280ZX models. The owner indicated some minor bodywork was done to remove minor dings and conduct rust repair on the passenger rear quarter during the repaint. It was during this time period the current owner also had the upholstery redone and the half dash cap installed at a local shop. According to the owner the car has been driven less than 5000 miles and only in fair weather for the past 36 years. The car runs great and the electronics function properly, except for the clock, and the dealer installed AC still blows cool air. As illustrated in the photos this car does need some work. Most of the body is solid, including the engine frame rails, but the floor pans will need some new metal patches, namely the passenger floor pan and sections of the driver floor pan. There is also some rust on the passenger rear quarter and both lower rear sections of the front fenders. There is also a slow leak from the gas tank when it’s more than 5/8 full, which is suspected to be from an old fuel hose. Overall this 240Z is a great driver and would be a solid start for a restoration.
